What the job involves

An oven collects years of baked-on grease in places a quick wipe never reaches: the back wall behind the fan cover, the corners of the floor, the racks and their side runners, and the gap between the inner and outer glass of the door. We take it apart as far as it's designed to come apart, and clean each part on its own.

The racks, trays and runners come out and soak while we work on the inside. The inside is degreased in stages, softening the build-up and lifting it off rather than scraping at the enamel. The door glass is cleaned on both sides, and between the panes on doors made to come apart. Then the stovetop and the oven front get a clean too, so it all looks finished.

It's a messy job, so we protect the floor around the oven and leave the kitchen as we found it, minus the grease.

Step by step

  1. Tell us about the oven

The type of oven (wall oven, upright or freestanding), roughly how long since it was last cleaned, and a photo of the inside.

  2. Free quote

We quote from the photo and the type of oven, and let you know if anything about it needs extra care.

  3. Strip it down

Racks, trays and runners come out to soak, and the door glass comes apart if the door is designed to.

  4. Degrease and detail

The inside is degreased in stages, the glass is cleaned on both sides, and every part is wiped clean before it goes back in.

  5. Back together and checked

Everything goes back where it came from, and we check the door closes and the racks slide properly.

What's included

  • Racks, trays and runners soaked and scrubbed
  • Inside walls, floor and ceiling of the oven degreased
  • Door glass cleaned inside and out, and between the panes where the door comes apart
  • Door seal wiped and checked
  • Oven front, handle and controls cleaned

  • Floor protected while we work

Not part of this clean

  • Repairs to elements, fans, seals or thermostats
  • Doors or panels that aren't designed to come apart
  • Barbecues and outdoor ovens

Worth knowing

  • If the oven isn't working or has a fault, that's a job for an appliance repairer, not us.
  • We don't take apart anything the manufacturer didn't design to come apart.

How pricing works

Oven cleans are quoted, free, before any work starts. The price depends on the type of oven, its size, whether there's a second oven or a separate grill, and how much build-up there is. A photo of the inside tells us most of what we need. Added to a regular, deep or end-of-lease clean, it's quoted as an extra and done on the same visit, so there's no separate trip.

Why it builds up where it does

Fan-forced ovens push grease around the cavity, so the back wall and the fan cover get the worst of it. Spills on the floor of the oven bake on every time it's used, and the door collects drips that run down between the panes. Those are the places we spend most of the time.

Before a lease ends, a sale or a guest

The oven is one of the first things an agent opens at a final inspection and one of the first things a buyer looks at in an open home. It's also where short-stay guests notice the last guest most. If you're booking an end-of-lease, moving or deep clean, add the oven to it and it's done on the same visit.

Common questions

Can you clean between the door glass?

Yes, on doors that are designed to come apart. Many modern oven doors do. If yours doesn't, we clean both outer sides and tell you what we couldn't reach.

Do I need to be home?

Not if we can get in. We'll need the oven turned off and cool before we start, so leave it off that morning.

How long does it take?

Usually a couple of hours for one oven, more if there's a lot of build-up or a second oven. The quote will give you an idea.

Can I add it to my regular clean?

Yes. Tell us before the visit and it's added as an extra for that clean. Plenty of people add it a few times a year, and before Christmas.

Can I use the oven straight after?

Yes. We wipe everything down after degreasing so nothing is left inside. If there's any smell when you first heat it, run it empty for a few minutes first.
